Patna University, Patna was established on 1 October 1917, making it the first university in Bihar and the seventh-oldest in the Indian subcontinent in the modern era. J. G. Jennings served as its first Vice-Chancellor. For its first three-and-a-half decades it functioned as a large affiliating and examining body whose jurisdiction stretched across Bihar, Orissa and even Nepal — effectively the sole university authority for the region. That changed on 2 January 1952, when it was converted into a purely teaching-cum-residential university, with its remit narrowed to a small number of constituent colleges within metropolitan Patna, including Patna College, Patna Science College, Patna Law College, B.N. College and the College of Commerce, Arts and Science. The wider affiliating role for the rest of Patna and Nalanda districts later passed to Patliputra University, a separate institution — so unlike most other university pages on this site, Patna University is a compact, campus-based university rather than a sprawling multi-district affiliating one.
Why a result might not show up yet
Because Patna University now covers only a small set of constituent colleges, results are usually published college by college and course by course as each examination is evaluated — much faster than at large affiliating universities, but still not all on one day. Before assuming something is wrong, double-check that your college is actually one of Patna University's constituent colleges and not affiliated to Patliputra University, which covers the rest of Patna and Nalanda districts and is a completely separate examining body with its own portal.
The result on the portal is provisional. Your marksheet is issued by your college or the university's examination section, typically some weeks later.

If a mark looks wrong, or a paper didn't clear
- Scrutiny/rechecking confirms your marks were totalled and transcribed correctly.
- Revaluation sends the answer script to another examiner for a fresh look, at a higher fee, and can move the mark either way.
- Both are applied for through your college, which forwards the request to the university's Controller of Examinations, within the short window announced after each result.
- For a backlog paper, ask your college when the next examination for that subject is scheduled.
Before you rely on any of this
We publish result status and official links — we are not Patna University, and we cannot look up, alter or re-check a result. College-wise release schedules, revaluation fees and backlog timelines are set by the university and do change between cycles. Confirm the current position with your college examination cell or the university's exam branch.
