Annamalai University, Chidambaram was established on 1 January 1929 under the Annamalai University Act, 1928 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1929), built around Sri Minakshi College and its associated Tamil and Sanskrit colleges that Rajah Sir S. R. M. Annamalai Chettiar had founded at Chidambaram in the early 1920s and then handed over to the government to form a university. It grew into one of the largest residential universities in Asia, and today runs around eight faculties and roughly 50 academic departments on its Chidambaram campus, with about 80 colleges in the Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Mayiladuthurai districts affiliated to it, and holds a NAAC A+ grade. Its Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), launched in 1979, is separately one of the largest distance-learning operations in the country, so a meaningful share of "Annamalai University result" searches are for DDE programmes rather than regular on-campus or affiliated-college ones.
Why a result might not show up yet
Annamalai publishes results across three broad streams — its own departments, its affiliated colleges, and the Directorate of Distance Education — and each runs on its own processing timeline, so a DDE result can appear well before or after the equivalent regular-stream result. Before assuming something is wrong, confirm which stream your programme falls under and the exact scheme (semester or annual) it follows.
The result on the portal is provisional. Your marksheet/consolidated statement of marks is issued by the university's examination wing or the DDE, typically some weeks later.
How to check
- Open annamalaiuniversity.ac.in and go to the relevant results section — regular or DDE.
- Select your exact course and semester.
- Enter your register number as printed on your hall ticket.
- Save the result as a PDF as soon as it appears.
If a mark looks wrong, or a paper didn't clear
- A photocopy of the answer script can usually be requested within a short window after the result.
- Revaluation sends the script to another examiner for a fresh look, at a fee per paper, and can move the mark either way.
- Regular-stream students apply through their college or the Controller of Examinations; DDE students apply through the Directorate of Distance Education's own examination cell — the processes and windows differ, so check which applies to you.
- For a backlog or arrear paper, check the next scheduled examination for that subject with your college or the DDE.
Before you rely on any of this
We publish result status and official links — we are not Annamalai University, and we cannot look up, alter or re-check a result. Release schedules, revaluation fees and backlog/arrear timelines are set by the university and its DDE, and do change between cycles. Confirm the current position with your college, the Controller of Examinations, or the DDE examination cell as applicable.
