Bharathiar University, Coimbatore was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in February 1982 under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981, built around what had earlier been the University of Madras's postgraduate centre already functioning in Coimbatore. It takes its name from Subramania Bharathi — "Bharathiar" — the Tamil poet and nationalist writer whose verse became closely tied to the freedom movement, and it was recognised by the UGC for central assistance in 1985. The university's jurisdiction spans Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur and the Nilgiris, with around 147 affiliated colleges, 39 teaching departments of its own, and roughly 54 postgraduate programmes alongside M.Phil and Ph.D. research.

Why a result might not show up yet

Bharathiar's affiliating footprint runs across four districts, so results are published college by college and course by course as each batch is processed rather than on one single date. Check whether your programme runs on the semester or annual scheme, as they are published on separate timelines, and confirm your college is affiliated to Bharathiar rather than a nearby university — Coimbatore and its neighbouring districts host more than one affiliating university.

The result on the portal is provisional; your marksheet is issued by your college, typically some weeks later.

How to check

1. Open b-u.ac.in and find the results / examination section.
2. Select your exact course and semester.
3. Enter your register number as printed on your hall ticket.
4. Save the result as a PDF as soon as it appears.

If a mark looks wrong, or a paper didn't clear

• A photocopy of the answer script can be requested within one week of the result being published.
• Retotaling rechecks that your marks were added and recorded correctly; revaluation sends the script to another examiner for a fresh look — both are open for theory papers only, not for practicals or viva-voce.
• Applications for revaluation, retotaling or improvement are accepted within ten days of result publication, submitted to the Controller of Examinations, usually routed through your college.
• For a backlog paper, ask your college when the next examination for that subject is scheduled — Bharathiar typically runs these with the following regular cycle.
