The Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) conducts the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) examination — the state's senior civil-services recruitment, and one of the longest processes on this site. A KAS result is rarely a single event, which is the first thing to be clear about when you are looking one up.
Which result are you actually looking at?
KAS runs in stages, and each publishes its own result meaning something different:
- Preliminary — a screening stage. Its result decides only who sits the Mains. Prelims marks do not normally carry into the final merit.
- Mains — the written stage that does most of the work in deciding the final ranking.
- Interview / personality test — the final stage, for candidates shortlisted from Mains.
- Final result and merit list — the allocation of posts, published after all stages.
When you search for a "KAS result", knowing which of these you are waiting on determines what the number in front of you means. A prelims qualification is an invitation to the next stage, not a placement.
The gap between stages is the real exam
KAS stages are separated by months. The candidates who do well are usually the ones who treat the wait as preparation time rather than a pause:
- After Prelims, start Mains preparation immediately rather than waiting for the result. If you clear, you will not have enough time; if you do not, the work is not wasted for the next cycle.
- After Mains, begin interview preparation and, critically, assemble your documents. Certificate verification is a real hurdle and the paperwork is slow.
Documents: start early, not at verification
For a state service, this is where avoidable failures happen:
- Caste, category and EWS certificates in the format the commission specifies, current as at the date it specifies. The format matters — a certificate that is valid for another purpose may not be accepted here.
- Domicile and Kannada-language requirements, where applicable to the post.
- Educational certificates with your name spelled consistently across all of them.
Every one of these takes time to obtain or correct. Begin at the Mains stage, not when verification is scheduled.
How to check your result
- Open kpsc.kar.nic.in and go to the results or notifications section.
- Find the notification for your examination year and stage — the commission publishes results as PDF lists, so pick the right document.
- Search the PDF for your register number rather than scanning visually.
- Save the PDF itself, not a screenshot. The list is the record.
Cut-offs, and why last year's number misleads
KAS cut-offs move with the vacancy count, the paper's difficulty and the applicant pool, and they are published per category. A previous cycle's figure is useful as rough context and nothing more — planning against it precisely is a mistake, particularly when vacancy numbers vary sharply between notifications.
If you did not clear
The commission publishes marks and cut-offs after the process concludes, which is genuinely useful diagnostic information — use it to find out whether you were short at the paper level or across the board. KAS rewards repeat attempts more than most examinations, because so much of the syllabus carries forward. What does not carry forward is the deadline: check the age and attempt limits for your category before assuming another cycle is available.
Before you rely on any of this
We publish result status and official links — we are not KPSC, and we cannot retrieve, alter or re-check an individual result. Stages, eligibility, reservation rules, cut-offs and attempt limits are set by the commission and change between notifications. Confirm the current position in the official notification for your cycle.
If anything here is out of date, tell us — corrections jump the queue.
