U.P. Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj was set up on 24 March 1999 under the UPRTOU Act, 1999, by the Government of Uttar Pradesh as the state's open university for distance learners. It is named after Purushottam Das Tandon, the freedom fighter, Hindi-language advocate and former Congress president who was popularly given the honorific "Rajarshi" — sage-king — for his austere, service-oriented public life. UPRTOU works entirely through distance mode, delivering programmes from 12 regional centres and well over a thousand learner support centres spread across Uttar Pradesh, and is recognised by the UGC's Distance Education Bureau.

Why "term-end exam" and not "semester result"

Because UPRTOU students study through distance mode rather than attending regular classes, the university runs Term-End Examinations (TEE) at fixed points in the academic session rather than semester-end college exams. Results are compiled centrally across all regional and study centres, so it's normal for the TEE result of a paper to appear before — or well after — your internal assignment marks are reflected.

The TEE result on the portal is provisional. Your final grade card / marksheet is issued by the university separately, and can take longer to catch up with the online result — plan for that gap if you need the physical document.

How to check

  1. Open uprtouexam.in (the dedicated exam portal) or uprtou.ac.in.
  2. Go to the results section and select your programme and session.
  3. Enter your enrolment number as printed on your identity card / hall ticket.
  4. Save the result as a PDF as soon as it appears.

If a mark looks wrong, or assignment marks are missing

  • Scrutiny / revaluation is applied for through your regional centre, with a fee per paper, within the window announced after each result.
  • If assignment marks aren't reflecting, check with your study centre first — assignments are evaluated locally before being sent to the university for consolidation.
  • For a backlog paper, the next TEE for that subject is usually held alongside the following session's exams — check the exam schedule notified on uprtouexam.in.

Before you rely on any of this

We publish result status and official links — we are not UPRTOU, and we cannot look up, alter or re-check a result. Session timelines, revaluation fees and centre-wise procedures are set by the university and do change between cycles. Confirm the current position with your regional centre or the university's exam section.

If anything here is out of date, tell us — corrections jump the queue.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my UPRTOU result?
Open the results section on uprtouexam.in or uprtou.ac.in, choose your course and session, and enter your enrolment number. Keep a printout or PDF — the official grade card and marksheet are issued separately by the university.
Why is UPRTOU called 'Rajarshi Tandon' and where is it based?
UPRTOU was established on 24 March 1999 under the UPRTOU Act, 1999, and is named after Purushottam Das Tandon, the freedom fighter and educationist popularly honoured with the title 'Rajarshi' (sage-king). It is headquartered in Prayagraj — the city that was renamed from Allahabad in 2018, so both names appear in older records and search results.
Do assignment marks show in the TEE result?
Usually not in the term-end result itself — internal assignment marks are recorded separately and reflect in the consolidated grade card, which can take longer than the TEE result to appear.
Can I apply for revaluation at UPRTOU?
Yes — scrutiny or revaluation applications open for a limited window after each result, with a fee per paper, applied for through your regional or study centre. Watch the university's notices, as the window is usually short.
