- Download your scorecard and note your rank.
- Register for DNB post-diploma counselling through MCC when it opens.
DNB PDCET — the Post Diploma Centralised Entrance Test — is conducted by NBEMS for doctors who already hold a postgraduate diploma and want to convert it into a DNB qualification through the shorter, post-diploma route.
It is a small, specific exam, and that specificity is the point: almost everyone sitting it is a working clinician with a diploma in hand, weighing a two-year commitment against the career value of the final qualification.
Who this exam is actually for
PDCET exists for one situation — you completed a postgraduate diploma in a clinical speciality and want the DNB in the corresponding speciality without repeating the full course. The post-diploma route is shorter than the standard DNB precisely because it credits the training you have already done.
If you are coming straight out of MBBS, this is not your exam; that route runs through NEET PG. If you hold a diploma and are unsure whether your speciality has a corresponding post-diploma DNB seat, that is settled by the seat matrix published for the counselling round, not by the entrance test.
What the result gives you, and what it does not
The result gives you a score and a rank. It does not give you a seat.
Seats are allotted afterwards, through counselling, against the seat matrix published for that round. Your rank determines when you get to choose; the matrix determines what there is to choose from. A rank that looks comfortable can still be tight in a speciality with very few post-diploma seats — the numbers in some specialities are genuinely small.
So when the result arrives, the useful next question is not "is my rank good" in the abstract, but "what does my rank buy in my speciality, in this matrix".
How to check your result
- Open natboard.edu.in and go to the PDCET result or scorecard section.
- Enter the credentials used for your application — typically the application or registration number with your date of birth or password.
- Download the scorecard PDF and save it yourself. Counselling registration asks for it, and you do not want to be retrieving it under time pressure.
- Note your rank and read the counselling schedule published alongside the result.
The part that catches people: the counselling window
Post-diploma counselling windows are short, and they are published on their own schedule after the result. The failures here are almost never academic:
- Missing the registration window entirely because the result felt like the finish line.
- Not having documents ready — diploma certificate, registration with the medical council, internship and identity documents.
- Not knowing the bond, stipend and service obligations attached to a seat before choosing it. These vary by institution and are far easier to research before you are ranked and choosing under a clock.
Do the document collection and the institution research while you are waiting for the result, not after it.
If the rank is not what you hoped
You have real options, and they are worth weighing deliberately rather than reflexively re-attempting:
- Take a seat at a less-preferred institution. For a post-diploma DNB, the qualification is the same; the training environment differs. Talk to people who have trained where you are considering.
- Re-attempt in the next cycle, which is the right call only if you can identify what specifically cost you marks.
- Continue with your diploma. For some careers the diploma plus experience is sufficient, and the two years have a real opportunity cost. This is a legitimate answer, not a failure.
Before you rely on any of this
We publish result status and official links — we are not NBEMS, and we cannot retrieve, alter or re-check an individual result, nor advise on your eligibility. Eligibility, the seat matrix, counselling rules and bond conditions are set by NBEMS and the participating institutions and change between cycles. Confirm everything in the official information bulletin for your cycle.
