C-CAT — the Common Admission Test run by C-DAC — is the entrance for C-DAC's postgraduate diploma programmes in areas such as advanced computing, embedded systems, VLSI and related specialisations. It is taken almost entirely by engineering graduates aiming at a specific industry outcome, and the result works differently from a university entrance.

What the result decides

C-CAT gives you a score and a rank. What that rank buys is decided at the centralised counselling that follows, against two variables at once:

  • Which course you are eligible and ranked for, and
  • Which centre that course is offered at.

C-DAC runs its diplomas across multiple centres, and demand between them is uneven. A rank that comfortably secures a course at one centre may not secure the same course at a more sought-after location. So the meaningful question after the result is not just "what course can I get" but "what course-and-centre combination can I get".

Sections and course eligibility

C-CAT is structured in sections, and which sections you sat determines which courses you are eligible for. Candidates who sat a narrower set of sections have a narrower list of options at counselling, regardless of how well they scored.

If you are reading this before a future attempt, work backwards: identify the course you actually want, confirm which sections it requires, and sit those. Choosing sections casually is a decision that constrains your options months later, when you cannot change it.

How to check your result

  1. Open the C-DAC admissions portal linked on this page.
  2. Sign in with the credentials from your application.
  3. Note your section-wise scores and rank, and download the scorecard.
  4. Read the counselling schedule published alongside it — it moves quickly.

Counselling: prepare before the result, not after

This is where candidates lose seats they had the rank for:

  • Rounds are time-boxed. Missing a reporting or fee deadline generally forfeits the allotment.
  • Fees are substantial and due fast. Arrange funds before counselling opens, not during it.
  • Research the centres in advance — placement patterns, industry links and cost of living differ. Deciding your preference order under a clock, with a fee deadline running, produces bad decisions.

Build your preference list while you are waiting for the result. It is the highest-value use of that time.

If the rank is not what you hoped

Consider these honestly rather than defaulting to a re-attempt:

  • A less-contested centre for the same course. The diploma is the same qualification; what differs is location and local placement dynamics.
  • A different course you are eligible for, if it aligns with the work you actually want.
  • A re-attempt, which is worth it only if you can name the section that cost you.
  • Skipping it. For some career paths, direct industry experience serves better than a diploma. That is a legitimate conclusion.

Before you rely on any of this

We publish result status and official links — we are not C-DAC, and we cannot retrieve, alter or re-check an individual result, nor advise on eligibility. Course lists, centres, section requirements, counselling rules and fees are set by C-DAC and change between cycles. Confirm everything in the official information brochure for your cycle.

If anything here is out of date, tell us — corrections jump the queue.
